In the world of marketing, personalities don’t get any bigger than Gary Vaynerchuk. He has an interesting story and, it would seem, a compelling future ahead of him. Here are the top five questions it’d be great to ask him.
How Much Are You Worth?
If you’re not thinking about this, you’re not being honest with yourself. We know that Gary Vaynerchuk took his parents’ $3 million wine store and turned it into a $50 million business. It’s probably worth more by now. We also know he rubs shoulders with some pretty impressive specimens, many of whom are in the Fortune 500 club. His bestsellers also have to help bring in a pretty penny or two, to say nothing of his fees for public appearances.
Rumor has it he’s worth about $10 million, but would you be that surprised if it turned out he had even more in his bank account? There’s no doubt he’ll be worth several times that before it’s all said and done, especially when you factor in that this hurricane of motivation has expressed, on numerous occasions, that he plans on buying the New York Jets someday.
What Has Your Biggest Challenge Been?
Vaynerchuk is an extremely upbeat individual. If you’ve seen any of his speeches or watched his YouTube channel, you know he goes full blast at all times. Often, it seems like he’s trying to motivate people to achieve more through sheer force of will.
However, the man has certainly had his fair share of challenges as well. He was the son of immigrants whose father originally worked as a stock boy at a local liquor store. Vaynerchuk’s early entrepreneurial efforts were impressive for a child of his age, but he took a number of bumps along the way too.
Now that he’s making good money (though, again, we’re not sure how much) and has a family of his own, it would be interesting to know what he feels his biggest challenge has been. Given the numerous businesses he’s now involved with, it’s possible one of them would provide fodder for an answer.
When Do You Sleep?
Seriously, have you seen the video of a day in Gary Vaynerchuk’s life? He woke up at five am and went like a madman until heading home a little after midnight. That’s nuts. Again, he wasn’t enjoying a leisurely day at the beach with a barbeque. He was pin-balling around New York City, constantly talking on the phone, meeting with clients and spending every meal with a potential associate.
A cynic might say that he was putting on a show for the sake of this video, but the more one learns about the man, the easier it is to believe he might not sleep until Sunday before doing it all over again.
How Close Are You to Owning the Jets?
If he’s really worth $10 million, that’s no amount to sneeze at. However, that would fall far short of the $635 million it was purchased for over 15 years ago. Still, it’s hard to believe Vaynerchuk doesn’t have a plan of some sort. He may be a bolt of lightning in a man’s body, but he’s still very methodical. It would be interesting to know a) if he has a plan laid out, b) when he thinks this purchase will take place and c) where he’s at at the moment in terms of said plan.
What’s the Biggest Misconception About You?
Not knowing the man, it’s tough to know how much of his public persona is legit. For his part, Vaynerchuk definitely seems sincere and not as though he’s putting on an act. Even if that’s the case, there are probably a couple of misconceptions he wouldn’t mind dispelling.
