The last “E” requires the most effort, but is the most powerful. Once your employees are enabled, entrusted, and engaged, they will be well on their way to empowerment. Empowerment comes through encouragement and recognition of successes. Rewards do not always come as a cost to a company; a sincere, public praise for a short moment will go a long way towards empowering a hard-working employee, and will foster innovation moving forward.

Empowerment starts with awareness and open communication channels within the team. If team members are aware of the projects that their comrades are working on, they are more likely to be supportive due to their understanding of their dedication and achievements. That initial awareness can come from leadership announcements, or from any proud, thoughtful team member that wants to share the impressive work of others.

Small remarks and acknowledgements infuse pride, ownership, confidence and a feeling of being appreciated. General awareness can multiply the affects of praise when your team is genuinely excited to celebrate the contributions of others that they know worked long and hard for.

It is necessary to attend to your sales team and their efforts just as much as marketing and their efforts, for maximized results. These “Actionable E’s” are broad, but a great place to start. Let’s leave you with an easy way to remember:  Enable, Entrust, Engage and Empower, Everyday!
